Duo Rythmigration, "Une Journée Anonyme"
Musicians:
Henri Roger, piano
Ismael Robert, percussion
A piano and percussion dialogue in a duet
semi-composed by Henri Roger and semi-improvised
by the duo. It works well! The two musicians
speak the same language, expressing today's need
to borrow from other musical genres, but it
always remains jazz. The pianist seems to have
assimilated Keith Jarrett and Chick Corea, among
others artists and the piece "Une Journée
Anonyme" is a good example of this. His left
hand does wonderful work with ostinatos sometimes
giving the impression of a double bass.
Beautiful tone, pretty attacks, personal
phrasing, he understands how to let the notes
breath as in "ABBK", a tune with a very slow
tempo, with notes that hang suspended in the air.
One hears influences from Granados and some
Ravel in the piece "Noya Mondea", which is played
brightly. The percussionist's rythmic lines
perfectly interwine with the pianist's playing.
He shows his soloing skills in "Sous Les Dunes".
Overall, a very nice album that easily touches
the listener's heart.
