for 15 seconds. It is a much fabled banjo. But
I have a question. I have my doubts that anyone
will be. but.
So what do you all exprot banjo players do with
that one extra string that gets right in the way?
To me, and I mean I'm me, but to me, it gets
right in the way. It's a string that gets right
in the way.
There are these tuning pegs on the headstock and
you see four of them and you get all ready to
groove with your banjo and you see your fingers
right around the first few frets on those four
strings and you're all ready and it's great and
then you play something with your right hand and
"PLING!" there's this string that ISN'T EVEN
THERE, except there it is, with its own little
post peg and everything just hanging out there
halfway up the neck like it didn't even wanted
you to see it.
If I could only master that pling-string, man.
I'd be Lester Slatts and Phil Skrugg. I'd be
virtuific. Man.

The fifth string is merely a drone..it's a filler
string. Playing the banjo requires learning
"rolls" or "certain patterns of picking" and the
fifth string fits into those rolls, it actually
feels very natural when you get used to it.
And in case you weren't joking..it's Lester Flatt
and Earl Scruggs...Earl is the God of banjo.
