Can anyone tell me what they think of the EMG-P
pups? They're cheaper than the others and are not
as dramatic a change from my old pickups as ne of
the others would be... i hope i won't need a new
pickguard...

I use an emg-btc control on my 5 string bass.it
is an active eq that you connect to stock
pickups.it deffinitly adds punch and great
tones, but it obviosly is battery operated, and the
downside of any active setup that needs a
battery(ies)is the variation in sound depending
on the age of the battery and even how much or
what style you play.Ive also found that i can
basically get the same tones out of my passive 4
string bass.i think practice and technique are a
better way of getting the sound and tones you
want.i cant always rely or trust batteries.

i like the emg's i have simply for there
consistency of volume and tone.
of course you must keep your 9volt fresh, but
they aren't bad for the job.
i agree though that practice and technique will
make more of a real difference in the osund than
a set of pickups.
good technique can make a bad bass sound
reasonable, but poor technique will only sound
poorer with a better pickup.
