Cakewalk Playback Question

I have Music Creator 3. When record in to my sound card, the sound through my speakers is fine. When I export the file I just recorded in to my sound card with Music Creator 3, it sounds fine, but when I play the track within Music Creator 3 it sounds grainy and crappy. Does anyone know by chance why this would be? I've messed with the outputs and inputs repeatedly, and I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. Thanks!

Do you have an older soundcard? Some older cards used to flip over to 8 bit for playback monitoring while recording. See if there is an option to set the bitrate.
