Does anyone else have crap dial up?

southwing	Date: May 18, 2005 @ 11:44 PM This is a complaint site right? So hear goes. We only have slow ass dial up connection at our house because of financial requirements, for now. In the near future, however, we will get dsl, oh yes, we will. But for now, with all the great free music available, thru dmusic and yes the other guys, all I get to hear after waiting 5 to 6 minutes on a lo-fi click, is mabey 15 seconds of a song that sounds really, really good.....THAT SUCKS!....it's not ya'lls fault.....its really not mine....its that god forsaken almighty g*#-%@ DOLLAR BILL!.........mmmmmmmm....... Thanks for lettin me vent.....cya
pog	Date: May 19, 2005 @ 12:34 AM Lo-fi should stream okay with a dialup connection... sounds like you're congested with spyware.... go to download.com and get adaware and spybot s&d Another thing worth checking out is the dial in speed (line quality). Just hold the m ouse over the dial up connection.... if it's anything lower than 4k then consider that you may have a bad phone line, otherwise it's almost definately spyware.

It’s a very competitive market with all the telecom companies slitting each other’s throats to keep prices down. You can get a monthly subscription for about 15 pounds or even less a month now, which I think is less than $25. What is it like in the US and elsewhere in the world?
onewhodreams	Date: May 19, 2005 @ 11:11 AM raises hand Crappy dial-up user here Lofi works for me just fine... I hardly ever have any problems. As for the cost in the US, I have AOL bleh and need to keep it for reasons I won't go into, but in order to keep my account & have DSL/Broadband it would be something like $50 a month compared to the $23 I pay now. Not a huge increase, but enough to make me wait until they lower it a bit.

Svensta	Date: May 19, 2005 @ 11:58 AM Yep, my broadband runs me... 42 month (NYC cable). Will be pricing it for NJ shortly and will be paying whatever I have to. I will go back to dial-up when I don't use the computer anymore, which will be never. And AOL is a rip job. YOu can get NetZero or Netscape dial-up for under 10 a month, and how much worse can it be than the AOL virus?
zedsalt	Date: May 19, 2005 @ 12:38 PM We have a double firewall, check for updates on our antivirus (2) and antispyware (3) programs daily, and run the antispyware programs at least once a day. We did the free FCC bouceback bandwidth test, and it said our combo of phoneline, modem, and PC should be able to handle about 1.1 mbps. Let the cursor rest over Windows' mini icon of the two monitors, and it says we're running at 57.6 kbps. Watch the actual bandwidth usage, though, and you see we're often running at less than ten BYTES/second! We've gone so far as to take our tower over to a relative's house, change the settings to match their dialup service, and WOW! the thing was lightning fast compared to the service we get from our ISP. Our electric company was supposed to have broadband service available at the start of this month, but they haven't even started beta testing yet (I know, I was on the phone a couple days ago trying to convince them that WE'd make good beta testers). I'm told it should be available in a month or two. In the spirit of the Complaints forum, I'd also like to point out that we have a Comcast cable running through our yard that provides broadband to folks in towns on either side of us, but they keep telling us that it just wouldn't be financially feasible to offer that service to us.

I think there is still some more s#$%t on my computor.By the way the dial in speed is somewhere in the 40. mbs range for me on a good day..Thanky You again everyone!
AGenePunckbowee	Date: May 19, 2005 @ 7:27 PM Maybe try a different access number, someimtes they aren't all putting out at the same rate (don't know why and they never explain). I've got SBC/Yahoo regular DSL it's running about $27, and their premium is "on sale" for $29 But of course that's for new customers only. For pre-existing customers to upgrade to it, they get the thrill of paying $49. It to me isn't worth the extra $22 for increasing the speed. Besides it would be wasted on this computer anyway.

pog	Date: May 29, 2005 @ 5:32 PM Glad that spyware remover has helped. heh, gotta love them fast links..... mine would go 8000 if my modem could handle it.... for now I'm happy with my 1500kbps modem router, but I can feel an upgrade coming on one day.
shadowself	Date: May 29, 2005 @ 7:39 PM I have free 3008/800 DSL, and soon switching to free 5mbps cable. I love working for an ISP. I can't believe how expensive broadband is in the U.S.
