"Dear valued customer, We announced on this forum that we would be releasing a final maintenance update to our 3rd generation Cubase applications, namely Cubase SX3 and Cubase SL3. At the time, our assessment of our development resource capacity indicated that we would be able to include the release of this final maintenance update in our product release roadmap. Unfortunately, an internal development resource planning review has now ascertained that we had underestimated the development resources required for the continuing work on timely introduction of 64-bit versions of our products. The planning review has also ascertained that we are unable to issue a final maintenance release for Cubase SX/SL without being forced to dramatically delay release of new 64-bit versions of the 4th generation of Cubase, which are essential to our long-term development goals. As a result, Steinberg will not release the Cubase SX/SL 3.1.2 update, and Cubase SX/SL 3.1.1 will remain the final version of these products. Opossum	Date: January 19, 2007 @ 3:41 AM A brother has had very similar issues with OCR software and other packages even years ago. It's just one of those things - like death and taxes. In fact, the old Byte magazine would have advertisements for products that didn't even yet exist in the advertised state!

moam	Date: January 19, 2007 @ 2:13 PM um yeah this huge company im involved in must have experience in this field All I know is they double fucking charged me, then after they said it was being taken care of, i call back after a week of not getting a refund and they say "we just did it and now it will take 3-5 business days!" im so pissed...im in college so i REALLY shouldnt have to deal with this shit...mother fuckers, growl......

Date: January 19, 2007 @ 5:49 PM The update being cancelled by Steinberg for Cubase SX3 is annoying on many levels, notably the admins at cubase.net who since April 2006 have repeatedly said ...'it's coming, it'll be here in June' then 'it'll be here in August' then 'it'll be here before the end of Q3' then Cubase 4 is out but 'we promise the update will be available before year end' and now, oops, it's NEVER coming. Christian Dettner and co (admins) have been allegedly second guessing and/or allegedly outright lying about this for months - admittedly they are not coders but they are employees of Steinberg. Cubase 4 was released and not until they'd taken people's money for a month did they say 'We dropped DX plugin support as it is irrelevant' in a very condescending tone and only after a storm of protest did they apologize for this 'unfortunate oversight'. They really do think that the plebs that use their software are morons who don't matter and will just keep on buying, this is evident from the postings at cubase.net for several months. Cubase SX 3.1.1.944 while being a generally very stable product still has over 50 identifiable bugs, some of which were supposed to be fixed. The simple fact is, they are prioritizing Nuendo 4 (3000 dollar program) and Cubase 4 on 64 bit - the fact that they are owned by one of the richest companies in the world, Yamaha, shows how poorly Yamaha are investing in Steinberg. Smaller companies like Cakewalk have had 64 bit for nearly 2 years. Their is a large group of disgruntled customers, some of whom are jumping ship. It seems that Magix will profit quite a bit as many of them favour a move to Samplitude rather than Sonar, although some indicate they might adopt Cakewalk. SB have a lot of making up to do imho - I still think Cubase is the best all round windows audio/midi sequencer but there are only so many times you bite the hand that feeds you before the people feeding you say 'bugger this' and choose something else.

shadowself	Date: January 24, 2007 @ 3:49 PM Sonar takes some getting used to, yes. However, I have been using Cakewalk products for about 15 years so I know my way around the interface. I have had experience with Cubase, Logic, a bit of Nuendo, Pro Tools, etc. and I still keep coming back to Cakewalk. Their support is fantastic as well.

Still, I'm with T on this one - sorry, no offence to Sonar, it's a powerful program but I just can't tolerate it's interface (ditto Samplitude and Logic)
