Sabian or Paiste?

Our band plays various styles of music. Some of
our stuff is rock and other is more light rock
and folk rock. Our lead guitarist plays with a
Gibson Les Paul Standard and a Marshall amp. He
previously played in two metal bands. The female
lead singer plays with an Ovation Celebrity
(electric acoustic) and also a Marshall amp. The
singer tends to lean more to the folk/rock side
but when the lead guitarist and I join in it can
move towards a more towards rock, almost in the
line of U2 (as far as heaviness is concerned). In
fact, we are trying to get the same type of
versatility in atmosphere that u get from a band
like U2 (from good solid rock to slower easier
stuff). We also have some very atmospheric songs
that do not require any hard hitting on the drums
or cymbals. The bottom line is that we work very
hard not to let all the songs sound the same.
I am leaning more to the Sabian AA Performance
Set because it sounds more versatile when it
comes to the more folky stuff. I also got advice
to try out the Sabian AAX Stage Performance Set
(the sets because its cheaper). I currently play
with Paiste 101 and only heard good things about
Paiste. Is there perhaps a Paiste cymbal set that
will work to get the same effect? (Please spicify
the name of the Paiste cymbal set). Can you
please help?

I don't think Paiste actually make any cymbal
sets outside of their bottom-end lines and the
Alpha series.
But my advice is not to go with a set of cymbals,
but to look for individual cymbals which have a
sound character that suits your style. For you,
I would recommend some Paiste Innovations Medium
Thin crashes as they've got some guts when you
need it but they're also sensitive when you need
it. They have a great 'crash' sound.
But in the end it's up to YOU to hit the cymbals
and to pick the ones that 'sing' to you. Read my
advice in the other thread a couple down about
what cymbals to buy.
Don't limit yourself to one brand either, I
currently play Paiste (I have Signature Dark
Crisp Hihats, 18" and 19" 2002 crashes and 14"
402 hihats), Meinl (20" Byzance Chinese), UFIP
(8" and 10" splashes), and 20" Byzantine Rock
Ride - the Ride cymbal is actually a cheap brand
and it sounds incredible for the price!
