Any Drummers use Drum Shields?

i am going to talk to my band about investing in
a drum shield for the drum kit, our practice
space is a living room, and when everyone has
their gear setup it seems to reduce in size of
course. the drummer can control his volume but
it seems no one in the room can really compete
with the natural volume of the kit.(he has a
smaller more quieter kit but mainly uses the
bigger one)
is it a risky question to ask the drummer to
accept a drum shield to lower some of the volume?

No, if he was recording in a studio he would
probably be in isolation or behind a major
plexiglass/acoustic shield. Just tell him that's
how the 'pros' do it and it's getting him
accustomed for recording the album !!

We use to cover our drummer's entire kit, cymbals
too, in a nylon car cover to reduce the noise.
It actually sounded kinda cool and the drummer
could still play pretty good without it being a
distraction.
