Fruity Loops
Crash cymbals in a Layer sound clippy but are fine on their own

(I have FL Studio 5)
I have a layer set up with all my drum samples
each assigned to the appropriate note so I can
import drums from midis I've made previously into
the layer's piano roll. Now, each channel with a
crash sounds fine when previewed, but any time a
crash plays from the layer itself it sounds very
clippy, regardless of the velocity of the hit or
the channel volume. It doesn't appear to do this
on the other drums samples (ride, snare, etc.)
but it could just be because it's not noticeable
on the more staccato samples. I've checked to
make sure all of the channel settings for each
drum sample are the same and they are, but for
some reason those darn crashes are terribly
clippy. Anyone know how to remedy this, or
perhaps a better way to import drums from a midi
into FL?

wow.. that's a tough one..
did you try writing the stuff out yourself in the
piano roll and seeing if the crash clips?...
if it's ok when you write the notes out yourself,
i bet there's some weird value of the midi you're
importing..
i would double click on the note in the piano
roll and look at all the values you have control
over.
when you say clippy, do you mean it's kind of
granulated, or distorted, or it just cuts out to
soon?
so did that help any.. probably not..

I think the problem is only while previewing in
FL. I exported to MP3 and it seemed fine, so I
feel a bit silly. Still strange that it's like
that. And by clippy I mean it sounds like the
patch itself is clipping in "preamp"
(figuratively speaking) so it's always distorted
regardless of volume. But, it looks like it's
resolved, or at least, I can export so I'm happy.
