Orange cabs vs Mesa cabs??

MillZ	Date: October 14, 2005 @ 3:18 AM Right now I'm currently running a Peavey JSX head through a Marshall JCM900 1960A cab. It doesn't sound bad but it's deffinately NOT the sound I'm looking for. I've been looking and playing through a bunch and I've come to the Mesa Recto 4x12(Traditional) and the Orange 4x12.But.....I've heard Mesa's can get very muddy and bassy in a band situation so I'm wondering if anyone could give me some pointers based on experience.I play pretty much anything from classic rock to new wave and everything in between. GeneHilbert	Date: October 14, 2005 @ 3:38 AM Dude - that's like asking someone to pick out your shoes..... Go check them out..... Play as many as you can... Pretty much any amp and cab combo can be EQ'd thousands of ways. Internally, externally, no one but you is going to know what you are after. Plus what guitar are you playing? Who do you want to sound like? Look at what they use. Marshall, Fender, Randall, Crate, Mesa, Carvin, Vox, Soldano, Matchless etc. etc. etc.
MillZ	Date: October 14, 2005 @ 3:45 AM Thanx for the input. I've played em' all (almost..lol) and I'm using a variety of LP s, a Fender Jag-Stang(hot-rodded) and an Ibanez RG all with SD pickups...I'm just asking guys who have used those cabs in bands for some advice/tips. thanx.

MillZ	Date: October 14, 2005 @ 3:34 PM I've thought of throwing some Celestion V-30's into it for around $150 a pop but it would be easier and cheaper to sell the Marshall and get a new cab. thanx for the advice tho. Cheerz.

woodhead	Date: October 15, 2005 @ 10:47 PM I would change your head first, I am not a fan of peavey guitar amps, I have a marshall Cab and use a rack set up, I love my sound. And Gene is right, you need to know whattype of soundyour are looking for first.
zedsalt	Date: October 16, 2005 @ 10:39 AM Well, I assumed when he said he'd "been looking and playing through a bunch", he meant he'd been trying them out with a JSX, right? Maybe not. I'm not a big Peavey fan, either, but I'll admit that it's been years since I messed around with a new one. If I were looking at new amps right now, I'd go for a Reverend Kingsnake.

The fucking thing is amazing..... 130watt mono - 65 watt stereo - digital effects - 85 user presets. If you are going to make an amp purchase – you owe it to yourself to check one out…

zedsalt	Date: October 17, 2005 @ 12:20 PM ...or a Reverend Goblin. A lot of the "biggest" guitar sounds our Arena Rock heroes put on their albums came out of very low-wattage amps. And I like the idea of running the signal through a variety of actual, physically different pre- and power amp stages, as opposed to digital modelling.
GeneHilbert	Date: October 17, 2005 @ 12:49 PM I had never heard of Reverend before – so I went to the page and checkout their sound files. That amp sounds damn pretty good – for the price $600 to $700 (depending on the deal you get) not bad…… I have four tune posted on my sound page since I bought the cyber-twin – Foot Prints, Misty, Round Midnight, and Four. Check them out……
GeneHilbert	Date: October 17, 2005 @ 12:55 PM I probably should add - these 4 tunes are all jazz tunes - clean twin reverb settings. Amp only and no additional effects added……. I have recorded some distorted settings on a couple pieces but they are not ready to upload as of yet…..
MitchWillis	Date: November 19, 2005 @ 3:23 AM I'd go for a nice orange tube head and cab. Unless you play more nu-metal type stuff than go for the mesa...OR buy both! that covers a fair bit of ground than.
