tomdunn421	Date: June 17, 2005 @ 9:45 PM I thought to post this thread after reading a pretty crazy article in this months playboy mag where the reporter gained access (don't know how) to the inner workings of a huge Canadian smuggling operation. The shop brings in about $20 million in profits per year (1 driver was making $100K per month…just sick). They talk about using helicopters to bring in hundreds of pounds at once, which is actually a pretty smart idea (being that the U.S. can’t patrol the entire border.) Any1 else read this yet? - J

Yes, it's bad stuff and can ruin your life blah blah blah I know plenty of people that the only bad stuff that happens to them is some embarassing moments that they have to be told and can't remember. If you think about it, use of marijuana would go down if it was legalized. For a while use would spike, but gradually the demand would outstrip supply and people would get bored and go back to smokin cigarettes and ruining their lungs that way. Either that or I'm completely high right now and don't wanna have to break the law!

Anslinger for making it illegal----he need a job and used “reefers” to make a name for himself. Much easier than stopping the proliferation of alcohol bootlegging at the time! It was originally done to push Mexican immigrates out of the Southwest to make room for anglo workers during the depression! Gotta love the U.S. government and all their infinite wisdom!

Karmatic	Date: July 9, 2005 @ 9:11 AM If anyone here gets a chance, watch the movie Reefer Madness. The original was made in like 1932 as a public service type message about the dangers of marijuana but it was -extremely- overdramatized and kinda funny to watch nowadays. Then this year they made a spoof type remake of it which was also quite funny.
zedsalt	Date: July 9, 2005 @ 1:05 PM As musicians, we should keep in mind that the main purpose of Anslinger's proposal was to make it illegal for a white people to purchase, possess, or even listen to "race records" (Blues, Jazz, etc.) Hemp was written into the legislation as a last-minute measure. He and his crew adopted the term "marijuana" from a tiny, remote region on the Yucatan to make hemp sound exotic and dangerous, something that "encourages fraternity between the Races" (GASP!) The "counselor" of a mandatory "drug aversion therapy" I was subjected to stole my copy of "Reefer Madness". True story.

Alecs	Date: July 10, 2005 @ 10:51 AM Zedsalt's right, as usual. Marijuana was illegalized mainly due to racism. Kind of off topic but you know the song "La Cucaracha"? It's a spanish song, the title translates to "The Cochroach". But if you listen to the lyrics, it's about a soldier who refused to march to battle without weed. lol I had a good laugh when I figured that out
