Music is my life...

This is good and this is also bad...
I have
gotten to the point where music is how I live my
life. I seriously am obsessed and can never
think of anything else besides releasing more
songs. I am sooo anti-social now because I would
rather be working on an aggressive, evil song
than hanging out with people I know or am friends
with. Usually some one of the only things I
enjoy talking about with a few people I know is
my music.
I am sooo obsessed that it brings me
down that I most likely WON'T be able to do this
for a living. I have been taking music SOO
seriously and that's not a good thing,
considering I probably won't get it heard by as
many people as I would like to. I can honestly
say, I put MUSIC before school. What the fuck is
wrong with me? Sometimes I wish I were just like
a normal person with normal hobbies who did
social things like go party, meet people...etc.
But not me. I mean, don't get me wrong, I am
damn proud of my talents and I listen to my own
music all the time, as well as show it off. But
I feel like from this past year I have gone
nowhere but dig myself a deeper hole that I will
never get out of. I don't know...
I guess I
just wish I could make this my career somehow.
Or atleast do something LIKE this...
Anywho, life sucks. Anyone else similar to me?
Do you get that involved with the music you make?
This could be an interesting topic.

I wanted to make music my life, too, but, as a
student studying Music Ed eons ago, I found much
more interest in the "social" nature of college
life. So instead of practicing, studying,
sitting at a piano, I let beer and people I
thought were friends rule my daily existance.
Somehow convincing myself the professors were out
to remove "soul" from music and replace it with
"theory" was a real convienant ratialization. I
remember going into a sightsinging exam w/ my
theory prof., totally unprepared, getting called
on it, which made me weep in front of him, and
pretty much leading me to leave school. My
advice moam is, I you love it, do it, but don't
let it rule you. Find balance. Get some friends
you can jam with and hang with. Have fun but
remember your priorities. Nothing is wrong with
you, but, if you do nothing but music and school,
one or the other will burn out. I don't want you
to get sick of the thing that gives you the most
pleasure. I hope I've helped, I never told
anyone about that exam, I feel better.

I have to wonder sometimes if our obsession
developed, leading to behavior that's obsessive...
OR
...we were in the process of becoming more
obsessive, and we were lucky enough to have a
natural interest in music there to fixate on.

Hehehe... Zed, I wonder exactly that same thing
all the time. And I'm almost certain that, in my
case, it's the latter.

It's a curse......... run! run! my friends save
yourself, your family, your friends. Before you
too are consumed by this vile and heartless
entity...... I implore you - stop now.... before
it too late........
You're still here..... too late now....... poor
bastards....

Music is the most important thing in my life, but
it is not my life.
Don't worry moan, I was in a situation like that
too, I'm very anti-social and so on, but with the
band I've been able to meet a lot of new people
that have the same interests I have.... I don't
have new friends, because I'm not like that, but
I get to talk and deal with a lot of people.
Just be yourself, be natural, whatever works for
you, you don't have to be like the 99% of world
population, the problem would be if you weren't
happy being yourself, but thats another story.
