mytakamineg240	Date: June 8, 2004 @ 12:25 AM I'm think of upgrading to an acoustic electric. I only have about 400 to spend. What guitar in that price range would you suggest?? I'm thinking about another Takamine, and I Taylors and Martins. Maybe an Ovation??
chrismacmanus	Date: June 8, 2004 @ 5:31 AM At that price range, you really might want to look into Simon and Patricks, the sound off these things is really good, they've solid spruce/cedar tops with mahogany necks and sound really good. I don't ususally use the pickup on it, but it does have a quite a crisp sound. The action is generally high on these when they come out of the factory, so they can be a bit of a finger shredder at times, but that really does give good depth to the sound (and makes slide playing easier).
Intergalacti...	Date: June 8, 2004 @ 11:48 AM Guild are quite good they're cheap as well don't know if you have them over there. They're not as popular as they used to be but still make a good sound. And I don't know what 400 dollars is in sterling but Guild dont udualy cost much more than £3/400
robin101	Date: June 9, 2004 @ 11:29 AM Regardless of which guitar you use, you may get a better recording result: “direct” from your electric acoustic by using a rubber insert in the hole of the guitar. One such piece is a called a: “Feed Back Buster” (made by the “Kaman Music Corporation, P O Box 607, Bloomfield, CT 08002 USA). Your local music store ought to carry them. They are very inexpensive. Once you use one of these, you may never go without one - especially “live”.
robin101	Date: June 9, 2004 @ 11:37 AM Also, you can get a great “direct” sound using a relatively inexpensive electric/acoustic guitar equalizer called a “Fishman Transducers PRO EQ”. This unit (or it’s upgraded version), is made especially for electric/acoustics.
GuitarnoiseNick	Date: June 9, 2004 @ 1:15 PM You may want to think about sticking with a non electric version and sticking in a Fishman rare earth soundhole pickup. I'm not a big fan of cutting chunks of wood out of the side of the guitar.
robin101	Date: June 9, 2004 @ 6:20 PM Please explain "cutting chunks of wood..." I've never had to do that. ...or do you mean simply the 1/4 female jack only? The "Fisherman" eq is an out side unit..

jof1029	Date: July 15, 2004 @ 12:43 AM i say just get an acoustic and mic it. cutting the preamp hole and the jack decrease the tonal qualities of the guitar. also you can get a better guitar if you dont pay for the built in preamp cause they usaually add a bunch of money for those things.

Smokindog	Date: July 27, 2004 @ 1:33 PM My fav. acoustic ia a cheap $99.00 johnson guitar. I use it for slide work and put a cheap single coil pick up on it and it sounds awesome.
