Help stringing Floyd Rose

Alecs	Date: June 4, 2005 @ 10:29 AM well I've got everything on, strings in the saddles, tied into the tuners, but I can't figure out a way to get the things in tune without putting a gigantic amount of stress on the strings and destroying them before I get the chance to play them
xXJiMiXx	Date: July 13, 2005 @ 3:02 PM If you arent experienced, take it to the guitar shop and watch the guys do it. You will eventually learn how to do it. Thats what I'm doing with my guitar about tuning the damn thing. You can really mess it up. It sounds like you may need an extra spring, or you need to adjust the springs.
hueseph	Date: July 13, 2005 @ 11:15 PM With a floating bridge, you can't just change tension at random. Every time you change the tension (thickness) of strings, you will need to reset the intonation and as mentioned likely have to add or remove a spring or adjust spring tension. If your guitar was originally set to use light guage strings(or heavy guage at a dropped tuning), you will either have to go back to that same guage or detune.
ashleighj	Date: July 13, 2005 @ 11:31 PM okay, what you do is use the regular tuning pegs to get the low E (thickest) string somewhere in the neighborhood of in tune, then do the same for the high E (thinnest). don't bother trying to get it exact, you'd be wasting your time. don't over-tighten them, and they shouldn't break. now go back to the low E, tighten it a bit because it's probably way off again now that you messed with the other string, and this time adjust the tuning peg for the 5th string and get it relatively close. then back to the high E, then mess with the 2nd string.. keep going, you'll eventually get all 6 close to being in tune and not throwing the others off too much. you won't get it exactly in tune like that, because changing the tension on each string affects how much is on the others, also. so once you have it pretty close like that, then use the fine tuners (little tiny screws on mine, yours may be slightly different) to make minor adjustments to each string. don't bother putting the bolts back on at the nut, because the fine tuners only give you so much to work with and you'll probably need to readjust the tuning pegs after a bit of playing with new strings. oh, and it's always a good idea to have at least an extra high E string on hand. god i hate changing strings on mine.
