There's a slide guitar lesson by Guthrie Govan in
the latest issue of Guitar Techniques.

Guitar techniques is the shit.
Guthrie is the
shit.
I see him on a big screen every time I
walk through Denmark Street, and I nearly always
stop and watch for a time.
There are many ways to achieve a smooth gliss on
the guitar:
a) Using a metal slide, glass bottleneck, nail
polish, knife, mobile phone etc. as a slide.
b) Bending.
c) Using the whammy bar (on most guitars).
d) Sliding cleanly with your finger, keeping
contact and pressure, but not too much. (although
not a 'true' gliss when done fast the difference
is slight).
e) Using a pitch altering pedal/device (eg.
Digitech Whammy).
f) Using a B-bender (on some guitars).
g) Bending the body of the guitar radically
(careful!).
Yeh? Yeh.
