What kind of guitar do you play?

geetarman	Date: February 6, 2004 @ 7:37 PM I really like Fender. I have a G&L, love the action. The strings I use are Slinky 13 gauge. I wished I used the tremlo bar more like Brian Setzer. The guitar has a big sound with having to be loud. I have an Guild acoustic/electric, 13 gauge strings. A Martin D18.

The first acoustic (my first guitar) is pretty much a piece of crap with bad intonation, impossibly hard-to-turn tuning pegs and a crack in the bridge. And it hurts the fingers to play. I think it's a 'Vega', but it's the only place I've ever heard the name. The other is an acoustic-electric Takamine. Decent. Elixir strings. It don't get no better than Elixir. Not that I've payed $20 for them myself; they're still on my guitar from when my old roomate played my guitar and bought strings for it. Electric: the first is a Strat-style 'Lyon' by Washburn. Humbuckers and middle single-coil. Goes out of tune too easily. Basically crap, but the pickups have a delightfully crappy quality that works for certain things. The better one is an Ibanez something-or-other. One of those typical Ibanez guitars. Floating bridge, same pickup styles as the other. I think 11 or 12 for strings. It's been so long since I've bought strings I don't remember. D'Addario strings. They were my favorite. I like heavier strings, but it causes problems with the floating bridge. In hindsight, I wish I hadn't gotten a guitar with a floating bridge. "Seemed like a good idea at the time." I rarely used it period, let alone pulling it up. I haven't played electric in more than a year, but I do play acoustic occasionally. furiousBall	Date: February 6, 2004 @ 10:42 PM I have a 96 PRS Custom 24 Amber Sunburst w/ the bird inlays, Dragon pickups - love that guitar, so damn pretty and warm. But my baby is an 86 CE Bolt-on PRS beat to hell. the fretboard is so worn down, I had to have a guitar tech drill holes into the abalone and fill it with ebony dust and seal it so I could read the thing on stage (basically put black dots in the middle of the abalone - actually looks pretty cool). I also had the brass fret dots on the top of the neck replaced with black stuff to read those as well. The back of it has a belt buckle wear so bad, you can see about 6 inches of the wood under the paint. She's ugly, but I love her to death.

missvolatile	Date: February 8, 2004 @ 2:22 PM Ive got a poor girl's les paul aka ephiphone, but it does its job. I have special strings on it to make it sound even heavier and darker. I love the darker guitar sounds for some reason. I'm still dreaming of a PRS though..I could spend hours playing one in a music store, but I think they get annoyed with me after awhile. If I only had an extra 4 grand laying around. And Van...if you ever get tired of that PRS..feel free to donate

They're both sunburst colored too, so it's all good.....

I wanted (and still might) to turn it into a basitar like Chris Ballew uses from The Presidents of the United States of America. Don't hate me because I'm a dork. Geek Rok! Oh yeah, I'm debating whether I should plaster it with stickers too...

mawcs	Date: February 9, 2004 @ 11:11 AM p.o.s. Korean strat with a floating tremolo. It goes out of tune every 5 minutes. Works, ok for recording, but I would never play live with it. I'm going to either upgrade all of the hardware on this one, or get a new one, soon. I also have an inexpensive Alvarez acoustic that must be a fluke. It sounds better than many guitars that cost twice as much. I love and I will keep it as long as I can.

I have a pretty cheap one myself-I don't usually get excited about acoustics in the music store, but one time I picked this one off the wall and was blown away. Great sound, I think a lot of them are better guitars than they should be for the price

I needed extra credit (please don't give me a D teach..) She knew I played guitar so she said research the beginnings of stringed instruments. I came back said what if I build the lyre and a papper would that help my cause. After 50 phone calls I found two snapping turtle shells in Pennsylvania for sale. Then I added some guitar hardware. A friend of mine air brushed two naked women on the front side. So I made two of these lyre's and gave one to the school and kept one for myself. At the end of the semester our class had a Toga Party. I had to strum the thing and recite some works from Homer.

If there aren't played for awhile the strings could rust onto the frets... Buy a store and keep them cool at 68 degrees. You need to buy a big cigar humidor! I've never met anyone that owned 40 guitars. I'd make sure to take pictures of each one and put the pics into a security deposit box at your bank. God forbid there was ever a fire...!!!

Rodrica	Date: February 27, 2004 @ 10:05 AM It's cheating a bit...I got myself a Line 6 Variax. It's a guitar with digital capabilities so that it can reproduce the sounds of several "classic" guitars plus acoustic and even a banjo at the twiddle of a couple of knobs. Sound? Authentic? Not bad if you fiddle around a lot with the settings, and it depends a lot on how the amp and effects machine are set up with it as well...but it makes some nice sounds. I'm least happy with the "acoustic" sounds it does. You can probably get away with quite a bit in a mix but I'm sure those with the "real thing" would hear the difference. Not a bad way of having 10 guitars in one bag though.

I use a VG-8 Expanded & Roland GR-09 for the guitar. With the Roland GI-20, I use the Strat and/or the Jazz as synth controllers. It's a little finnicky as a controller, but the results are pretty amazing.

sqrlcub	Date: March 24, 2004 @ 4:14 PM My current primary guitar is a luthier made Blackshear classical from 1976. It has aged quite well and improves every year I play it. Even with dead strings, this guitar sounds better than any factory made instrument and at least as good as most average luthier made instruments. This instrument is very bright and has a lot of volume which lends itself well to a lot of flamenco. I wouldn't even dream of damaging the tone by putting on a golpe guard on this instrument which is pretty traditional in flamenco. Classical guitars age very well similar to violins and other acoustical strings. My secondary guitar/gig guitar is a La Patrie Concert (the highest quality one classical hybrid that I had miked up with a good quality pickup. This guitar is very warm and really a tank of an instrument. It just doesn't have the quality of the first one. Even though I play a lot of flammenco, I don't have a golpe guard on this one either. It's a relatively expensive instrument but I tend to fudge golpes (that is the flamenco soundboard taps for those that don't know) so they aren't really damaging to the body.

tossom	Date: March 26, 2004 @ 2:57 PM 1996 Gibson SG 1978 Fender Strat, maple neck (jet black - inc. scratchplate, pickup covers and knobs) 1975 Fender Tele Custom (sunburst) 2002 Vigier Excalibur Ultra (amethyst) Tanglewood 12 string Simon and Patrick SP6 CED All electrics bought secondhand bar the Vigier which was a birthday present - a bloody nice one at that! SG was the first good guitar I bought, this is probably the reason that it's still the favourite. I just love SG's - so nice to play, look so good and sound brilliant.
