Help
utilizing your playlist

FYI
I get a few questions on this topic, so let me
just assist everyone at once here.
While you are out there, in your search for
music, and you happen to come across a song you
just can't live without.
create your own playlist!!
next to the comments on that users page, there
should be a link that says add to my playlist.
Click on that, you will then be taken to another
window, where you can create a playlist name ( I
like to seperate mine by styles of music), then
click the designated box you wish to add the song
too and click ADD.
Bam!!
easy!!
Then if you go to your user page, top left under
playlist, you can then again access your
playlist as well.
What are other's listening too? Who are some of
their favorites?
Go to the artist page, bottom left,
click playlist and it will take you to their
playlist page.
I currently have a HUGE playlist in the works of
all the songs that have been submitted for the
DM compilation CD. (Which again everyone is
encouraged to assist in picking their favorites
for the actual CD)
If you like someone else's playlist
Just click SNAG at the top of the selected
playlist and BAM! it's yours!!
I have notices a great many people haven't been
using their playlist and I highly encourage it!
It saves time and searching for that great listen
you heard last week.

Also you can "snag" the list if you know how to find them. but you don't know what they'll find because there's no way to find/search them? and there's no user search, which users should have an option of being public or private or making their playlists public/private.
I've counted an additional 4 ways that the playlist could be improved without changing the existing database structure (based on my own knowledge of databases). You can also make the playlist more interactive and easier to follow/read. maybe even multiple option views... which would be as easy as doing something like.

I believe that would be NeoFlash's department, though I could be wrong.
Additionally, you could incorporate an enhanced CD section of the compilation that has the best (there's another idea here but I'll leave it alone) playlists from each genre and when they put it in the computer and it takes them to the best stuff... via playlists... you could do a ton of stuff on that note..
I'm off tangent now... and full of really good ideas.. I wanted to share some of them because I want those who run this site to get a little taste of how I think.

" id="36613">ok... so here's my 2cents, and it's not my entire
thoughts on this subject...
first, the playlists are very much like stations,
in that you can create them, or many of them...
but there's no ability to see what playlists are
available, so you should be able to give them a
name and a search variable along with some kind
of organization method so they can have their
own tab.
As a user, I would be into seeing what people are
playing on their list and listening.
Now, I realize that you can email your play list,
but people can't access your list on their own
unless they know to go:

as a side note.. to my own comment, if you're on
a users page, if you find the user... you can
click on playlists on the bottom left side...
for those looking to see what people have for
lists.

interesting concept, but ok say you have a search set up, and everyone has there cute little names for their playlist...
well how are you suppose to even know the name of a playlist in the first place to search, unless you go to the user's page anyways?? Besides, once again I see it better to have to visit member pages to seek this information anyways.
You could maybe have a master list entered into a search...
for example
jennae create a playlist called
( my favorite jkate playlist)
song's to shoot heroine to ( :lmao: )
say that title is directly entered into a data system that then allows members to view say a pull down memu bar or something there like, where they can randomly select different playlist to peep.
This again seems like a waste of space to me.
There is no way of knowing what you would be locating on any playlist with all these random titles, and I just don't get the point...
So clarify here for me. How exactly do you mean? :skeptical:
" Now, I realize that you can email your play list, but people can't access your list on their own unless they know to go:

another link issue here dear
and anyone can access any playlist or snag them by simply clicking on the users playlist link on their page. They can easily as well see all the songs in the playlist they are snagging as well...
so again i'm seeking clarification.
"You can also make the playlist more interactive and easier to follow/read. maybe even multiple option views... "
and explain this more for me... how so??
and FYI
NeoFlash is no longer with us, but THASP could probably assist. That is if you were refering to a member. ;)
"Additionally, you could incorporate an enhanced CD section of the compilation that has the best playlists from each genre ..."
But playlist are not necessarily catagorized into genre's...
are you maybe talking about the top 20 playlist?? or the top 20 of each genre??
I know you have many great ideas and I love to hear them...
but I am not following you ideas here so assist me in seeing them.
" id="36623">ok for starters
what's up with the links?
They do nothing for me but take me to the home
page... am I missing something??
making playlist private or public, not a bad
idea, although I am currently wishing I had this
choice due to the compilation CD reasonings, but
why would you want them privated??
wouldn't it be bad in the sense that you are just
deleting one more chance of someone possible
finding out new music??

mp3.com and type hoobastank, I get artists that are similiar because people put stations together that have hoobastank with similiar artists (I'm intentionally being broad, I appologize)... but the end result is I can search for things I'm familiar with.
ie. I like Jennae, so I search for you, I pull up 20 playlists with you on it, that have a matching ratio that tell me that other people on this list are similiar in genre, so I listen...
In terms of catagory, there's a ton of ways you can do it, which is why i mentioned multi views, because I wouldn't want to dig so much through, I want short views, so I can browse. You can search by most frequently vistited, most streamed, most popular overal combination of active artists... are just some of the easy examples...
you really could do all of them.. each one is a 4 line piece of code that requirers a special link similiar to how they do ?sec=community
all you do is have it give you choices
sec=community&var=everyone
sec=community&var=20people
sec=community&var=peoplelikeme
that's not the genre search example, but it makes sense if you look at it right...
seth s." id="36628">well, first, I'm only giving you the snippets,
not the organization, if they want details,
they'll call.
but a tab for playlists, public or private
playlists for users, who may just be doing it
for their own use. Of course, you would have to
classify them. even better, you would fix the
classification issue, and then the mixture of
songs would generate the genre classification.
Each one would have to be named (of course) the
user would become the author, rather then
thinking of it as the authors play list, it's now
the playlist authored by... unless you're logged
in, then it's your playlist.
My suggestion about the CD is about using the
playlists as both a promotional tool for the
artist and a marketing tool. to be honest, I'm
more interested in good playlists then
searching... which brings me to an idea I didn't
share, but the site is set up for it.
which leads me to say, I won't explain how much
more interactive... Jennae, I want them to think
about what I have to offer lol
The searching playlist is a product of the
architecture... easy to set up...
I didn't lay it out exactly so that I wouldn't
give out the functionality.. there's a big
component missing from this that makes it really
good...
just think, I'm a fan of hoobastank, so I go to
mp3.com
