"The creation of music is suffering because of
declining sales," said RIAA Chief Executive Mitch
Bainwol. "We clearly have a more difficult time
tolerating gaps in revenues that should be there."

So sales are down and everyone is to blame but
the industry, so say. Unless you are the thickest
turd in a sewer, like Mitch is, you'd notice
music creation is better than ever... It's just
not all THEIR music... Although they are robbing
anyone, including us, with SoundExchange or
whatever the fuck it is.

Anybody who knows anything about marketing, knows
that the thing to do when sales are down, is to
roll up your sleeves and get creative.
For the most part, this isn't being done in the
industry. Too much time is spent suing people and
looking for ways to explain poor performance. God
forbid the lack of growth over the last decade
would be due to poor judgment on the part of the
executives as to who they sign, and how much room
they give signed artists to grow once they're
onboard.
It can't be that... or can it?

Exactly what I thought!
Sorry Chris, I didn't even visit the link.
Someone posted a thread about this elsewhere, so
I just copied the URL. I'm not registered either.
I always hate it when people post links to
stories at sites where you have to be registered
to read them. I most humbly apologize.

They should deregulate the radio industry, break
up Clear Channel, and let the people take back
the airwaves which were public property in the
first place. The declining music industry we are
talking about is the private ownership of the
public forum. Kick those guys out and let
everyone else have a piece of the pie.
If radio ownership were on a local level, more
local bands could get much needed exposure and
then even a chance for national exposure. Return
the radio spectrum to the people who own it in
the first place - US.
Each one of us owns that spectrum which the giant
corporations have stolen from us!
