I Told You So!!!

For those of you who may remember, last year I
wrote an article for Underground Beat Online on
the impact of the Internet Independent music
movement and its effect on the music industry.
As you may or may not recall, I got a lot of
mixed responses from those I interviewed. Here's
the article to refresh your memory (click on
October 2003):

Anyway, I got my confirmation while reading the
May 17 edition of Newsweek. In an article titled
"Rock's Big Bounce" is the first written
acknowledgement of the Independent music scene
and the Internet stands front and center as the
source of it all. Musicans have been able to
garner a much larger audience using the internet.
For example, I have fans as far away as Japan
and I have more fans in new York and Pennsylvania
than I do in my home here in Spokane, Washington!
The article, written by staff writer Devin
Gordon, says "After a grim decade, the rock scene
is producing music--lots of it--that's worth
getting on a plane to hear. And better still,
people are buying it."
The article also states, "Now, thanks in part to
file-sharing and iPods...it's hard to get through
the week without making a find."
According to this article, MTV has begun loading
indie videos into their playlist, so those of you
who have videos--find a way to contact MTV!
The bottom line is we are starting to gain
attention to what we do because of what we do and
there's no way this is gong to stop anytime soon.
With thousands of acts to choose from, I can't
see attention being drawn away from the Internet
anytime soon like Seattle, Boston, or Manchester
"scenes" were. This is a fluid, ever-changing
environment and you can't see it all in one day.
Ladies and gentelmen, we have arrived!
Have a great day--I know I will!

that is a great article, and I agree with you
100% the indie movement is starting to take off,
and the internet is our tool for getting tunes to
the masses.
