I need some good speakers

koiulpoi	Date: April 3, 2005 @ 3:48 PM I'm pretty sure you DMusic people can give me some good advice here. The speakers I am currently using with my PC are starting to go out, and as such I need to buy a new set of them. Since I have a bit of extra money, I've decided to go with something higher quality. My price range is up to 100 dollars. I've looked at newegg.com, and there's speakers from 3.75 to 375 dollars, and I don't know enough about speaker specs to know how much I'm going to 'get what I pay for'. Also, I do not want a surround sound system - I've never been impressed with surround. I have, however, been greatly impressed with '2 speaker surround' simulation sets. And yeah, I should probably go into a store and check out speakers there so I can here them, but I'd love some suggestions by you guys.
leflaw	Date: April 3, 2005 @ 4:07 PM get a pair of Yamaha NS-10's used on ebay for 300 - 500 per pair. Then you will be able to hear what music sounds like in most recording studios.
koiulpoi	Date: April 3, 2005 @ 4:53 PM I looked, and 300-500 is if I can find a deal on them. I can get, for instance, just the tweeter for 150. I'm looking for something more... actually obtainable.
imemine	Date: April 3, 2005 @ 5:10 PM Some good info here! http://www.dmusic.com/forum/gearup/14219#8 The Event 20/20 is gaining rather a cult following amongst folks like us. Of course any of the Genelecs would be a great choice but who can afford them? Leflaw is right about the NS-10's being used as the industry standard nearfield monitors but I think that they sound awful (IMO)and they aren’t very accurate either. Most engineers will tell you that they use them because they KNOW them rather than because they are great speakers. Every speaker has its flaws, the best way to go about this (again IMO) is to find something that you like, listen to stuff you know as a reference to find out how this speaker responds and mix accordingly. Hope this helps.
imemine	Date: April 3, 2005 @ 5:14 PM Oh, the passive version of the 20/20 can be had for under $300 U.S. so there ya go if you already have a decent amp. The BI-amped version is around $750.
wet1	Date: April 4, 2005 @ 4:13 PM Sorry, I much prefer the surround sound. Without busting your budget too much if you would consider such here is a set well worth the money. Keep in mind the article is an old one and the prices have went down since then and the are better out there (of course of more money). These will cause the floors to thump and the windows to rattle. gerard100	Date: June 13, 2005 @ 11:15 PM behringer truth monitors are nice and cheap, just be gentle with behringer gear, not exactly built for the road
