It's hard not to argue that Lennon and McCartney wrote some of the more memerable tunes of the last 50 years or so... That said, IMO, some of the biggest duds have been Paul McCartney's work on his own or with Wings. My thought is: Which Beatle had the best career post-breakup? OR: Which person is most responsible for the Beatles success?

kingo	Date: July 10, 2006 @ 7:36 PM Paul McCartney has had a lot of great stuff since the Beatles, IMO. In addition to the bad. But I respect the fact that he's continued to create a lot of music. That's important, I think; even if some of it's been duds. However, I don't think there's any way to answer your question. "best career" is a tricky term. They all seem to have done a lot of what they wanted to do, aside from the obvious tragedy of Lennon's very early demise. And it's obviously impossible to say which one person is most responsible for the success of the band.

hate9wicket	Date: July 10, 2006 @ 7:50 PM Oh don't get me wrong, I like a lot of Mac's work, I'm just thinking there were a few more clunkers in his warchest as opposed to John. That and I don't think any of them were able to achieve the same level alone as they did together. However, I think the band breaking up was the best thing for George and Ringo.

zedsalt	Date: July 11, 2006 @ 11:24 AM I'd have to agree with the idea that the Beatles just wouldn't have been the Beatles without each and every Beatle. As for postBeatle greatness, I'd have to say that George has the greatest number of solo tunes that I like- so far. I mean, I haven't heard much of Paul's more recent stuff.

BOWILLIE	Date: July 11, 2006 @ 6:08 PM arguments can go left or right on this issue..the early years..lennon was soley the main driving force..until about 64 or so..then the beatlemania craze pretty much ate up the popish sweet tunes of maco.. that pretty much dictated lennons disgust with it and the lean to more meaningfull insightfull tunes by lennon..his remark about being sick of the sad glad boy girl tunes that they did so well.. something that paul continued on with in his style to this day.

Date: July 11, 2006 @ 8:32 PM Lennon has had many classic songs such as Jealous Guy, Working Class Hero, Give Peace A Chance, Mother, Instant Karma, Number 9 Dream (totally awesome tune), Woman, Just Like Starting Over, Watching The Wheels, Beautiful Boy etc - His talent was more than 'Imagine'. Macca - 'Band On The Run' by Wings was fairly decent (Jet, Band On The Run, Let Me Roll It etc) and some stuff like Maybe I'm Amazed and Coming Up was OK but he also gave us Mull Of Kintyre and We All Stand Together (The frog chorus) songs. Not to mention 'simply having an annoying Christmas song'... Harrison - didn't do much after 1971 when he was #1 with My Sweet Lord, his Cloud 9 album in the late 80's was 'OK-ish' - He wrote some of the best latter day Beatles stuff like Something and Here Comes The Sun, plus 'Taxman' and 'If I Needed Someone' and 'Rain' all classic songs. Ringo - catch him at a working men's club or casino in your area, plenty of seats left.
Woof	Date: July 11, 2006 @ 8:58 PM Just some thoughts in general: Mc Cartney's album "Ram" was, and probably always be, one of my fave albums ever. Lennon's Christmas song was genius. Much better than Mc Cartney's. Harrison produced songs for Badfinger on their "Straight Up" album, which is also one of my fave albums. Finally, Benny Goodman or Dizzy Gillespie said something like: "Show me a band with a great drummer, and I'll show you a great band". Lots of things (including George Martin's superb production chops) contributed to The Beatles' success... however underrated he may be, one simply MUST give ol' Ringo a standing ovation, too.

Some people wanna fill the world with silly love songs. And whats wrong with that? Id like to know, cause here I go again I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, Case----AND----point!
