Fretbuzz Problem

des-olator	Date: January 31, 2007 @ 3:21 PM I have a slight fret buzz problem with my guitar, I am assumingh its because the action at my nut is to low but I am wondering if there is a way to fix this w/o taking it to a shop and replacing the nut and readjusting the action. Its basically just by high B String at the third fret, making my D and G chords not sound like they should or could. The guitar is bran new, the neck or any othe part is not bowed. Thanks for your help anyone
hate9wicket	Date: January 31, 2007 @ 3:47 PM I've had problems like that before, but at the bridge, I've used cardboard matchsticks, placed under the string acting up, It might work at the nut, placed in the groove under the offending string.
LegoBreaks	Date: January 31, 2007 @ 4:10 PM My first guitar had that problem, at the time i thought it would be a good idea to sand down the offending frets. This created me a guitar that didnt buzz but had crappy intonation, so this is the way not to solve it I did fix this problem adjusting the action on anouther guitar, but that matchstich idea looks like something that could be quite good
celtaidd	Date: January 31, 2007 @ 4:20 PM Are the frets smooth? If the 4th fret is rough or too high, might cause the buzz
GeneHilbert	Date: February 1, 2007 @ 12:25 PM Brand new..... How brand new……? What kind of gtr is it? Have you adjusted the action or intonation since you bought the gtr?
des-olator	Date: February 14, 2007 @ 6:29 PM It is an Epiphone PR-6E. Acoustic/Electric and Cutaway. Its my b string and the third fret that sounds like crap, my high e string at the 4tyh fret is also buzzing. Would it be a solution to maybe shave these frets down a bit? They are the only ones making a buzz, the rest are fine.
Distilled1	Date: February 14, 2007 @ 7:27 PM no don't shave them unless you are a luthier its either the notch in the nut has been dug into to far (what size strings?) or the bridge is just whacked. now I have had this same issue on some lower cost Electrics same spot but it was fixed by tweaking the saddles on the bridge. have you tried a heavyer gage string? or a lighter ?

des-olator	Date: February 16, 2007 @ 9:59 PM I dropped it off for the repairman today Immediately he just says, your string are diveted, put new strings on it and it'll be fine, then I told him that my B string at the third fret and high e string at the 4th fret was buzzing if with perfect strings. The he looks closer and shows me I've got pretty big rivets in my frets (from leaning it on the wall) and its has a slight backbone, so in a few days and $60-$90 later, I'll let ya know how it works
