What is with the Hatred of these bands and Mainstream music in general?

ray104	Date: July 3, 2008 @ 1:13 PM what is with the bashing of certain babds and the Hatred of mainstreem music in general? without manstreem music there wouldn't be fans or haters of certain types of music heck some genres themselves would not exist and we'd be in the dark ages. I mean it's Just MUSIC for gods sake. #1.) Nickelback- I don't get all the hate for this band. I will admit that quite a few of their songs do have a similar sound and that they are overplayed. I did hear the Combination of ther songs "Someday" and "How you remind me"; and they do indeed sound similar,but they don't sound EXACTLY the same. I keep hearing about how ugly chad kroger is he looks like a normal dude to me. #2. Linkin park- I will admit that they do have a generic sound (not unlike most of these types of bands) and they do seem to revert from Teen angst type music and themes about "violence and whatever crap people say". I do think they are an Aquired taste. #.3 My chemical romance- I like their sons (at least the few I have heard) and I will say they are not that bad. I think that people lable them EMO because they appeal to "gothic" and "emotional" people who are IMO just regular people that are misunderstood. Well EMO is the stupidest lable to put on people bcause almost all people are emotional, well except sociopaths who are devoid of any emotion at all. I like the black parde and I will admit I like the song. I'd probably buy their albums too. #4.fall-out boy- I like a lot of the songs I hear from them and I don't see where the hate lies. I think its frm people who hate people who are successful or appeal to a crowd that they are afraid of. Most Teen-pop artists- everybody says that these artists are Manufactured and cookie-cutter and I will say that for some artists that is true, and for others it isn't I have to admit i am 19 and I still like "girl-pop" like Ashley tisdale and such (I own her album ),Vanessa hudgens,(don't own hers yet)danity kane,Natalie,jessie mcartney,(don't own any of his) Brooke hogan Avril lavigne who I think is hot even though she looks like she could own me,or rape me which by ielf wouldnt be so bad.
hate9wicket	Date: July 3, 2008 @ 1:55 PM Familiarity breeds contempt. Of those bands you mentioned, I bet any song these artists manage to get airplay, it will be one or 2 songs tops, and if they get more than that, it will remind you of their last success. It is not the artist I hate, it is the label (RIAA), the radio station (clear channel) and the empty vee (Viacom) or the unholy trinity of the lowest common denominator. I can't for the life of me remember listening to a radio station for music, I prefer online streaming, via Pandora or Public radio like Minnesota's rock station The Current, where a DJ builds a playlist... and actually takes requests! It used to be, sign a band based on a concert or showcase, let 'em gig to improve and take the chance to let 'em get mature, let the songs come, now it is lock 'em up in a studio and try to force them into getting 20 to 30 songs that are identical to that magic demo and wear 'em out if they don't sell a million copies every time out.... are you sick of Coldplay? Why? Do they vaguely remind you of something from 20 years ago? Exactly! There was a band a few years ago called Fastball out of Austin TX.... which evoked Elvis Costello for me...had a very catchy single called "The Way" I wonder what happened?
leedsquietman	Date: July 3, 2008 @ 2:51 PM Hate is a strong word. I don't 'hate' any music, I might dislike it and it may not be my taste but hate - no. Like / Dislike subjectivity is what has made the world go around since the year dot. It's healthy.
Fraser	Date: July 3, 2008 @ 11:49 PM hate9; I disagree with your disagreement of having musicians sit in a studio and pump out music (weird sentence...) I think it is all in the band's preference. I personally would love to sit in a room for days on end just creating music, and pumping out songs. True, by forcing an artist to make songs that are all alike and similar may be a bad thing, but do we have any proof that recording studios are doing this? Or is it just the musician's style in music?
zedsalt	Date: July 4, 2008 @ 3:43 AM As I age at what seems to me a ridiculously rapid and entirely unfair pace, I find more and more that the tiny portion of music being released that I don't care for has something in common: it sounds contrived. One of the things that acts seem to be overly concerned with is "digestibility", and that's a real Art killer. When the musical equivalent of Pablum gets tremendously popular, it's especially maddening. I'd still stop short of using the word "hate", though, and I've never had a real problem with any of the bands you mentioned. At worst, they've put out a few lame songs to help sell otherwise good, substantial albums.
ray104	Date: July 4, 2008 @ 10:26 AM I do think that people don't listen to the entire albums these days just the radio hits, which are usually the worst song on the album.
GeneHilbert	Date: July 5, 2008 @ 5:41 AM They're some bands and music styles I don't like. Artistic expression is fine, and I'm all for it. Hell - it's what I do..... But the amount of contrived crap that has been force fed to the masses since the late 70's is staggering. Even bands I really respect have produced some god awful music. I've heard the Grateful Dead play of the most horrendous shit known to man. The shit made my teeth hurt. It’s all subjective - if everyone like the same thing.... Mike Nesbit would still be a Monkee.
