anyone successful in getting on college radio?

Maffmatix	Date: January 8, 2004 @ 2:48 PM I've gotten on University of South Carolina radio station and the University of Miami at Ohio station, probably will get on a few more- ALL because I am either friends with the DJ or have a friend who is.
kredd	Date: January 9, 2004 @ 2:21 PM yeah, being friends with a dj does help, but if there is a specific college you are interested in i would suggeset listening to their programming and find a certain show or dj that regularly plays or spotlights either your kind of music or local music or indie music. never hurts to ask!
Acumen	Date: January 9, 2004 @ 2:47 PM I asked the radio station ran by students of Memorial Univerisity of Newfoundland (they do a superb job) to play some of my material when I get this one particular album completed and they are more than willing. All I have to do is finish the damn thing.
Acumen	Date: January 9, 2004 @ 2:50 PM oh, i was going to add... asking does go a long way, as kredd states. not only with local stations (not any mainstream ones, they're too busy playing shit) but other stations that broadcast using Shoutcast or some other apparatus. look at the type of programming the station does and their shows, those type of stations usually have shows devoted to a certain type of music, which gives you a much better chance of getting played. bribery doesn't hurt either.
sepidman	Date: January 9, 2004 @ 9:51 PM Certaily it is harder to get your music onto mainstream commercial radio. However, college and local community stations are more open and receptive. Find a programming schedule at the community and college stations and find out who plays teh stuff you perform. Make sure each jock there doing your kind of music has their own copy of your CD. Often they supply their own tunes for the shows. And if you can, give them extras to give away during their shows as well. You get the extra plugs, plus someone gets your music. Also give them a brief bio of yourself and if you are able, make arrangements to do a live interview with the jock and play something in the studio. Not always possible with all genre, but you can talk about your song etc before it is played. Good luck with it!! We have gotten a good amount of support at community stations worldwide as well as a good number of commercial stations in Europe as well as Australia. Have also had a couple of songs chart here in Canada as well. We do get better acceptance in Europe and Aussie though. Oddly enough even stations in Japan have played and requested my music.

sepidman	Date: January 13, 2004 @ 1:34 AM Thinkin' I should start-up my own station. Ya just never know. Woulod like to do a commercial version of a community or college staiton. Hmmmmmmmmmmm....... I went to college. More than one! Basiccally forgot teh first time?? I think my writing partner went through college as well.....on his motor cycle doing 'bout 80!!
