Sing from your abdomen instead of from your
throat. That's pretty much all I know...

The main trick to singing and playing (well for
me anyways) is mastering the guitar parts to the
point that you don't need to think about it. This
way, you can concentrate on the singing part....
it's almost like singing along to someone else
playing the guitar, and occasionally, switching
back to thinking about the guitar parts, just to
see if everything's still running in unison.
As far as songwriting goes, I personally believe
the most important lessons are learnt through
emulating the style of music you are interested
in achiving.... in other words, playing cover
songs. Once you have started getting your head
around methods for achiving the sounds you are
hearing, then you will naturally start to think
about other places you can take these skills.
Then you just need a idea of what you wish to
write about. There's many ways you can inspire
yourself into what you wish to write about... for
example, you could go to the public library...
walk around with a notepad, and write down words
that attract your attention.
Hope this helps
