I SMILE
The sun's transparent through my skin and veins,
and I lie down, waiting in vain, for some bright
new day to rise; and I smile, while these
feelings of impotence burst in me; fragile, I
smile. Jumping around me, these children:
liquified as blood, red in their thirst of
living, loving and being loved. And me, smiling,
fragile as a child, I smile and deny laughter. I
say it will come later. As these children I have
the thirst of loving and being loved, living will
come later... Some kiss, some sing, some talk too
much; I stay mute, but I smile. In my solitude, I
become green from forgetting, I hum hum hum of
forgetting, mute as can be, I smile.
