What makes a song appealing to you?

Is it the lyrics? The music? The beat? The
production qualities? The arrangment? The
instrumentation used? The energy? The vocals?
The hooks/riffs? All of it together?
There is no real answer to this question, of
course. Just curious what people key in on.
For me to really REALLY like a song (that means
"be able to play it over and over and still like
it for a good long while" for the most part), the
vocalist has to have an emotive, unique sound.
For example, Tyler from Stara Zagora, or Ben
Gibbard of Death Cab/Postal Service. Just have
to have that. Not to say that there aren't
talented singers out there (or that those 2
mentioned are great singers for that matter), but
there are SO many singers that sound SO much like
someone else out there...
Beyond that, it's a rhythm, structure,
arrangement quality (which varies depending on
the type of music - ie: electronic vs. rock vs
blues, etc.)and production (again depending on
the style of music - I like garageband recordings
of garagebands, etc.)
But that's just me..
