Music Appreciation 101..........

Music: defined as the "art" of organizing sound
so as to elicit an aesthetic response in a
listener.
Appreciation: defined as awareness or delicate
perception, esp. of aesthetic qualities.
Now taking these two definitions and applying it
to all music is a lot easier said that done.
Music appreciation to me is from a musicians
stand point and not just the listener.
I have been a musician for fifteen plus years. I
have seen music fads come and go, some
unforgetable, others you really wish you could
forget.
Now I am saying than everyone is entitled to
artistic expression and before someone bashes
another's works of art or music they should/could
approach it to there own art or music and should
also analyze their works and make sure that they
don't come across as a hypocrite.
Of course as we all know some people are not
happy unless they are trying to ice skate uphill.
I am pretty sure who ever designed this site had
a vision of letting artists and composers alike
to share there music and ideas for all.
I totally appreciate all the efforts and
masterpieces of all who contribute to this site.
The music that is on this site pushes the
envelope of creating to a new dimension. Some of
the art is redefining music as we know it, others
is just a good song to sit back and chill to.
Every time I listen to someone's work of art, I
listen with an open mind. If I don't really like
it I go back and listen for something I "do like"
and comment on it. To support they efforts as an
artist.
"Yes sometimes it's a lot tougher than you think
to find something you like but this is music."
If I like the piece then I find a few different
things I like and comment on them too. Either
way I am adding "to" and not taking away.
Constructive criticism goes along way, to
something that is so personal as someones work of
art.
Secondly, I look for inspiration. You can really
be inspired by anyone or anything pertaining to
music. If it's bad then your opinion should
reflect it positively even though you didn't like
it. If it's good then write something that
inspired you from it.
I have gotten so many ideas from this site. I am
going to be writing for the next forty-two
lifetimes. And I thank all of you for the
inspiration you have giving me.
Collabs are a great way to do that.
Find some music that you probably wouldn't write
yourself and go crazy with it. Put your own
"voice" to the feel of the art. Give it your own
favor and it will amazed and delite.
Lastly, if you do not have any thing nice to say
then just don't say anything. You are entitled
to your opinion just work on the presentation so
it would sound like something you would like to
hear.
Music is a gift to share everyday. I try to share
it with everyone I meet.
As a creator of art you having certain insights
and understandings of the nuisances of the music.
Pick it apart musically not just as a listener.
Please comment on these accordingly. It's the
little things we do as musicians that make the
art.
In closing, if your not finding something you
like, then feel free to take it upon yourself to
create what it is that you find is laking. After
all necessity is the mother of invention and who
better to invent something that's missing, than
the one who knows whats missing?

How do you know if it's missing if it hasn't been
invented?
