evansorchid	Date: June 18, 2008 @ 12:22 AM Sure Simon... Miracle Whip is basically a chemical emulsification of water, corn syrup and oil and is a bit sweet. Kids seems to prefer using this because of the sweetness. Real Mayonnaise is a classical sauce which is an beautiful blending of egg yolks and usually a flavorless oil like Canola. Mayonnaise tends to add richness to whatever it's added to. Cool Whip also leans toward the chemical side. It's a non-dairy product that makes a feeble attempt to imitate whipped cream.

zedsalt	Date: June 18, 2008 @ 3:48 AM Just checked out bottles of the "Lite" varieties of Hellmann's and Miracle Whip, and they seem to have pretty much identical info on the labels; it must be the regular varieties that are so different. One thing Miracle Whip had over Hellmann's, though: the upside down bottle that balances easily on it's big cap. Now, THAT'S freakin' brilliant!
zedsalt	Date: June 18, 2008 @ 3:52 AM Interesting fact about mayo- It's infamous for being the first part of sandwich to "go bad", when in truth, it's usually the LAST. It starts to look, smell, and taste "off" before the rest, but the rest is actually unsafe much earlier. It's like the canary in our picnic basket coalmine.
