Vocal remove?

zedsalt	Date: June 10, 2005 @ 12:33 PM After a fashion, yes. The results I've heard from hardware and software friends of mine have picked up...they compromise quality so seriously as to render them pretty much useless.

onewhodreams	Date: June 10, 2005 @ 12:35 PM Yeah, I have one.. can't recall the name of it right now but it does produce terrible quality. If I use it at all it's just to practice.

TameasDust	Date: June 11, 2005 @ 8:53 AM in removing the vocals they also remove the music at the same vocal frequencies ... would be better quality if you could control what specific frequencies you remove ... however having removed the vocal frequencies you have to replace them back into the music backgound ... it can be done ... it ain't simple unless you multitracked your recording in the first place and have the master ... sorta why most people record on multiple tracks and the more the better

DaveWL	Date: June 15, 2005 @ 7:22 AM Apart from the frequency method the other way it is sometimes done by software is by messing with the stereo alignment. The middle channel is removed and replaced by the left and right channels. The theory being that vocals are always recorded on the middle channel. This is usually the case but they may be doube tracked on the wider channels not to mention where backing Vox might be. The Karaoke feature on Magix Music Maker works this way. Like the frequency method, too much of the non vocal sounds are affected for it to be really effective. I’d be surprised if there is anything on the market that can remove a vocal so cleanly that you could reuse the backing track. But some are okay for practicing purposes.
Elu	Date: July 15, 2005 @ 11:04 AM You'd be better off finding a version of the song without vocals in it. The software that removes the vocals uses destructive editing and affects the quality so extensively you would not be happy with it.

gian1	Date: August 3, 2005 @ 1:43 PM I'm on the opposite side of the problem. Do any of you know a way to remove the music so you're left with an accapella? I tried that analog x program along with my soundforge and I know what you mean about losing quality. Is there something similar out there for making accapellas?
